London’s second annual EcoVelocity low-carbon vehicle motorshow will kick off at ExCeL London this bank holiday weekend, starting on Saturday 5 May. One of the star features of the show will be the chance for members of the public to have a go in electric and low-emission cars such as the Vauxhall Ampera, Peugeot iOn, Nissan LEAF and more.
Also on hand for test drives will be Honda’s CRZ coupe and Jazz Hybrid. The Ampera’s sibling Chevrolet Volt will also be available for drives, as will the Mia city car.
Citroen will bring its C-Zero, which, along with the Peugeot iOn, is a version of Mitsubishi’s iMiEV. Also available to drive will be Peugeot’s 508 RXH Hybrid.
Visitors to the show will be able to take the cars on a set 3.5 mile test drive route, offering a chance to see what the cars are like in real-world conditions. The organisers want to remind showgoers that if they want to drive a test car, they’ll need to produce both parts of their driving license.
And to demonstrate that electric cars can do the sportscar and luxury thing, the EcoVelocity paddock will also feature static displays of the British-born Lightning GT and, direct from the U.S.A., the extended-range electric Fisker Karma luxury cruiser. Also on show will be the pure-electric Delta E4 sportscar as well as the grand-daddy of electric supercars, the Tesla Roadster.
The EcoVelocity show will revolve around the ‘Main Theatre’ stage. Exhibitors including TheChargingPoint.com, Schneider Electric, EDF Energy, The Energy Saving Trust, The Green Car Guide and Michelin will take to the stage for interactive discussion forums.
So be sure to check out The Theatre at 11am and 1pm on the weekends of 5th/6th and 12th/13th May when TheChargingPoint.com will host 20-minute sessions – the morning sessions will be with the UK’s top electric car manufacturers. We’ll talk to companies like Vauxhall, Renault and Nissan about their current EV line-up, as well as what their plans are for plug-in cars over the next few years.
The four afternoon sessions, which will be a huge draw, will feature our own managing editor Will Dron’s one-on-one talks with celebrity EV drivers and enthusiasts including Red Dwarf's Robert Llewellyn and Smooth FM DJ Mark Goodier. All sessions will include a 10-minute Q&A session.
There’s something for EcoVelocity for bike fans, too. Get On will be exhibiting a range of electric motorcycles as well as providing expert advice on the benefits of life on two-wheels (they’ll also have small-capacity petrol bikes on hand). They'll also be offering visitors the opportunity to book a one-hour free test ride session at any one of 200 centres across the country. Get On represents the leading motorcycle manufacturers, dealers and other companies in the UK.
Other exhibitors at the show include Source London, Rolec, Zero Carbon World and ZipCar (the car sharing company).
TheChargingPoint.com will be at the show in force all week, located on stand EV207.
